Cincinnati — The Center for Closing the Health Gap and the LULAC Ohio Educational Foundation (LOEF) are preparing to bring a new bilingual health initiative to Hartwell Elementary this fall. CEO Renee Mahaffey of the Center for Closing the Health Gap and LOEF President Maye Moese met with Principal Antwan Lewis and Family Coordinator Victor Canal to finalize plans for the launch of the “Do It Right Kids” Nutrition and Dental Care Program for fourth‑grade students.

The program, designed to strengthen children’s understanding of healthy eating and dental hygiene, will be offered in both English and Spanish, ensuring accessibility for Hartwell’s diverse student community. By embedding the lessons directly into the school’s Physical Education curriculum, the initiative supports whole‑child wellness and reinforces healthy habits through movement, routine, and hands‑on learning.

“Do It Right Kids” will roll out in two phases:

• October–December: an eight‑week instructional series
• January–March: continued lessons and skill‑building activities

The Center for Closing the Health Gap and LOEF are co‑sponsoring the program, reflecting their shared commitment to improving health outcomes and expanding culturally responsive education for children across Greater Cincinnati.
